The festival dates back to ancient Celt period, when a festival to welcome the new season of harvesting was celebrated on a large scale. To honor their gods, Celts used to burn big bonfires of foods, animals, and fruits and dedicate it to their ancestors to provide them their blessings. It was also believed that on this day, dead ones visit their land and converse with the people. People used to wear Masks and costumes to scare evil spirits that later became a trademark of this festival.
