Today Halloween has become over commercialized with companies promoting a wide range of products while using Halloween as the theme to promote special deals and prices. But have you considered what Halloween was like back in roaring 1920s when your grandparents were celebrating the holiday. Life was much simpler back in these days and so was socializing with friends and family.

As Halloween was a simple holiday, many families used the occasion as a get together to have some spooky fun. For many families though, money was tight and there was not enough to spend on lavish once a year parties. One crepe paper manufacturer named Dennisons, in the early 1920s recognized the above and saw an opportunity. They put together an inexpensive book titled Dennisons Bogie Book of Halloween ideas that had costume patterns, games, food ideas and decoration cutouts. The costumes and cut outs were all designed in the companies range of crepe paper, complete with step by step instructions and color codes.

The companies book became an instant success allowing many families to host themed parties, all done in crepe paper. As the crepe paper company went in to different products over the years, the book became scarce then as 1930s and 40s came along died out altogether. Several years ago, a copy of the book was located and re digitalised complete with diagrams, instructions and pictures and is once again available to those seeking a low cost and fun Halloween.

You can view the contents of the book and purchase it here if interested.
